Both K-9 Flip
and K-9 Kane (below) officially retired in July of 2010. After years of dedicated, loyal service, and prior to passing, they enjoyed their retirement with their handlers, Officer Lutkowski and Cpl Nero. They will be greatly missed by so many.

In Memory of Retired K-9 Flip

Monroe County- Chief Harry Lewis of the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department sadly announce the passing of the department's retired K-9 Flip. He proudly served with PMPRD and with Officer Joe Lutkowski from 2002-2010. He was 12.5 years old.

Chief Lewis said on behalf of the entire PMRPD family, we wish to thank Flip for his years of dedicated service with PMRPD and for our community.

On behalf of Flip, we wish to thank all of the people in the community for their support of our K-9 Program.

In Memory of Retired K-9 Kane

PMRPD sadly announces the death of retired K-9 KANE who died at home on Saturday (12-21-13). Kane was an 11 year German Shephard who was cross trained in Patrol, Tracking and Narcotics. Cpl. Nero and Kane were responsible for hundreds of seizures of controlled substances and vehicles worth in excess of $1 million and the arrests of well over 200 people for drug related offenses. He tracked missing persons and found evidence which was discarded by suspects.

In 2010, Kane was awarded Monroe County Drug Task Force Officer of the Year by the Monroe County Drug Task Force. Most of all, he touched the lives of thousands of kids during his countless demonstrations at local schools and camps. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Cpl Matt Nero and we appreciate and honor Kane’s dedicated service for the citizens of Coolbaugh, Tobyhanna, Tunkhannock Townships and Mt. Pocono Borough. He served with Cpl Nero and PMRPD from 2003-2010. He retired and was enjoying life at home with Cpl Nero and new PMRPD K-9 Niko.
